As an avid fan of the original Jonny Quest cartoons, I have kept up with them over the years. I have probably seen all of the original 26 episodes from 1964-1965 many times each and I think the thing that really attracted me to the cartoon when I was a kid was the music. The newer versions have lost what I liked about the music, but I still like them.
There was a brief attempt to bring back the animated series in 1987, which produced just 13 episodes. But another effort made a real comeback with The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest from 1996-1999, which produced 52 episodes. I used to love to watch them with my kids. There was also a 1 hour version of the program released in 1995 called Jonny Quest vs. the Cyber Insects, which was effectively the pilot for the subsequent series in 1996. Another version of the cartoon came out in 1993 called Jonny's Golden Quest, which was movie length, but I have never seen it.
Many people ask me why I love these old cartoons. I have to blame it on the fact that when I grew up, cartoons were only broadcast on Saturday mornings and I was away almost every weekend camping and hunting from an early age. So, although I knew there were cartoons being broadcast and I loved them, I was deprived of them almost every weekend. But I think I have finally had my fill!
