Golf Rules

Golfers like players of any other sport have their own language, outfit and skills to boot. They speak with a tongue only co-golfers understand. A professional golfer clad in a typical golfer's outfit will stand out amidst basketball and football players in their sweaty jerseys. Lastly, a good golfer should have mastered accuracy and precision more than a good scientist can calculate.

Now, if you are indeed new to this, read on and you will not have to worry of making a wrong move again. First you should learn the necessary stances and techniques in order to go about golfing. Right below are the basic positioning and some techniques you should be able to master after reading them.

Playing the Game

First of all, grip the club properly. If you are right-handed, use you left hand to palm and finger-grip the club above the right hand. If you have small hands, try the interlocking grip. This is where the little finger of the right hand lies between the middle and forefingers of the left hand and is wrapped around the forefinger. You could try the baseball grip in which you merely touch the hand without overlapping or interlocking.

As for the feet, spread them far apart parallel to the shoulders' length for long shots. They are should move close as the distance from the green decreases and higher-numbered clubs are being used.

You should try to control the swing as much as you can. It should be deliberate and rhythmical as much as possible.

The strokes include:

Address - this means standing by the ball, putting your club down and preparing to hit the ball

Backswing - wherein the hips turn from left to right accompanied by the shoulders and arms while the left arm remains straight

Downswing - wherein both arms should be straight at impact and continue into the follow-through while the weight will gradually shift to the left foot

Impact - when the club hits the golf ball

Follow-through - when your whole body turns after the impact, hips should turn and both arms should be balanced

Personality during a Game

To speed up play, be prepared to take your turn. Don't go about the place and be out of focus. If you are playing slow, let the group behind you go ahead. Time should be spent wisely so be aware of the people around you. Count all of your strokes since you should make a hole in the fewest possible shots. Control your temper and do not throw your clubs, especially at anyone. Learn to respect the people you are playing with even if you are losing.
