In fact, when we have to take a pitch shot, we need to hit the ball in a curve line to reach the target. This in order to control the ball less bounce off not to be dropped too far away for the hole. Some times we want the ball to be still once it was dropped to the ground so we can play the next short easily. By doing this method, you have to hit at the central point of the ball and it needs comprehensive training and practice in order to take an effective shot.
First of all, you should learn and understand about basic principle of this technique. Of course, it’s not easy nor difficult as I have notices some player try to make it difficult by only trying to push the ball up high, but did not consider about the loft and the angle, ignoring these element doesn’t help you to get an effective shot at all. As a result the ball will not be still after it was dropped to the ground, and mostly bounce off to the rough or bunker.

We generally use a pitch shot only for some circumstances, such as the ball is on green but the grass is rough. For this situation, you may use a sand wedge in order to hit the ball out of rough and the right method is you have to hit the ball almost at the same time you hit the rough. However, you should carefully consider about every obstacles and opportunities that may effect to your shot and then decide which method to use and how you will apply for it. You may also think about the shot that you using a tee drive that you are familiar with and you should also think that the ball should not be dropped too far away from the target so it would be easier to finish in the next shot.
In order to take a pitch shot, you should address by stand openly of both upper and lower part of the body (only normal pitch shot allows you to stand open only on the upper part). Then aiming at the target and put the ball in front of you. Also make sure that you allocate the weight to both legs equally and aim to hit the grass that behind the ball. I would like to emphasize that you should make slow swing and use both of your arms to control the movement, and then swing in order to drive the ball. Be sure that your arms have to be still once the impact happens. This approach will make you can control the direction of the ball effectively
Once you have learnt the right method about how to take a pitch shot, then you realise that the shot that you have taken, the ball will rise, dropped on the ground and very still, not bounce off. The key approach of success are you have to take very slow swing, grip very still and do not move the body to help to drive the ball, and also, you have to training and practice a lot to be success.
