Many golfers spend most of their workday just dreaming of the next time they can hit the course. As the faxes come in and the emails are sent out, the vision of that crisp grass and smooth green gets them through the day. Imagine not even having to fantasize about it while you were at work, because work entailed playing golf.
That's the daily life of a golf instructor. You don't need to be a professional golfer with years of tournament experience to be a golf instructor. The caliber of instruction varies greatly and with enough practice and a lot of dedication you could begin living your dream.
Golf is becoming one of the most popular sports in the world, so the demand for qualified golf teachers is becoming greater by the season. More and more people are turning to golf as a great way to get some good exercise while having a great time. Therefore with all of the people that are trying golf for the first time, they are all going to need someone to show them the proper techniques. Which in turn means that there are a lot of openings for golf instructors.
It is one thing to instruct someone who has been playing for 15 years and wants to take a shot or two from their game. However, being a golf teacher for someone who has never held a club before does take a different approach. Each student will need a different set of instructions on how to improve their game.
Thankfully, there are a variety of ways that you can go about becoming a certified golf instructor. The good news is it's not as hard as you may think. There are some courses that you can take where you won't even have to leave your home course for. With special video training, you can even learn what you need to without having to leave your house. This is probably the cheapest method to get certified, however if you are looking to make a serious career as a golf instructor, this may only be a start to the education you need to receive.
There are a variety of certification courses that you can take. The longer and more involved courses you take, the more qualified you will become. It all depends on if you would just like to supplement your current income or if you would like to make a full time career as a golf instructor.
No matter how far into it you want to get, there are opportunities on every level. You can instruct on driving ranges, directly on the course, teach at a golf school or even teach at the high school or college levels. No matter who or where you want to teach, with enough dedication and most importantly, desire, you can make your dreams come true.
A good spot to start your quest would be at your favorite golf course. Speak to some other instructors and find out how they got started in the business. They will certainly be more than happy to let you know. The Internet is also an abundant resource for would be golf instructors, so that could also be a good starting point. If you live in a small city, you may have to travel a bit to get somewhere that offers a good training course, so look into what is available in your area. Your dreams to become a golf instructor can come true, you just have to make them.
