Those who are interested in golf but are unsure how to get started will discover that it is not spinal surgery with blinders on. The first question you probably have is 'Where can I play?' Most communities have a few options. Many people who love to golf, and tend to play often, will become members of a private club, but for beginners that may be too much too soon. Many state and local parks offer golfing greens for players to use for free, or for a nominal fee.
Another thing you may be wondering about is equipment. To start off you probably don't need much special gear or clothing. If you plan to use a local park to practice you should inquire about equipment rental before hand, because many parks do not offer a pro-shop to buy/rent equipment. Most private clubs however and driving ranges offer relatively inexpensive beginner lessons and will provide clubs and balls for you.
As for acceptable golfing attire, men and women should invest in a pair of khaki pants and a polo shirt with shoes meant for walking on grasssomething with a textured sole is best. No Timberland boots, sweats or jeans allowed. If you would like to buy your own equipment try to find a second hand half-set which will include a wood, usually a 3 wood, 3,5,7,9 irons & a sand wedge. It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense buying a ton of equipment before you decide whether or not you really like the sport. You might even want to share with a friend until you are sure. Its very important to dress the par. You wouldnt where a clowns outfit to a wedding and you certainly wouldnt wear a dinner suit to mow your lawn.
Speaking of sharing with a friendwhy not make beginner golf a group or couples affair. It is always more fun to learn (and hey, lets face it, look silly as a beginner) with other beginners you are familiar with.
Ok so you have a place to play, you are all decked out for golf and you have a group of friends ready to have at it, what now? Talk to the Golf Pro at a local green to see about options in your area. This is the best person to confer with about lessons, prices, practice schedules, rules and any other questions you may have.

I haven't seen anything else like it on the web. It's not available to the general public, yet - I was one of the beta testers, but if you need something like this, just ask Teo and I am sure he will send you some details.
