Olympics in India?

Submitted by Jason Edwards | RSS Feed | Add Comment | Bookmark Me!

I have worked with so many software developers in India that don't fess up when they make a mistake. They make promises and don't deliver. I am sick of this general personality type, which is not by any means exclusive to Indians, but I am seeing this in customer service from American and British companies that outsource to India.

I don't find outsoursing problems with other countries, including Russia, South American Countries and Europe (except for maybe France). Although I am absolutely positive that this is not what every person from India does, I have found it very prominent from people I have dealt with that were raised in this country and it could be symptomatic of their current culture.

They had a class based system, and although it is said to not exist anymore, it is still prevalent in their cultural attitudes. It is a culture based on pride. It is a culture based on an "I am better than you!" attitude. Humility is hard to find in the Indian software development, political and religious communities. The poor there are humble, but you don't run into them in other countries or online.

I watched the BBC today and it questioned whether India was ready for the Olympics. My guess is that the answer is a resounding NO! From what I have read, there will be problems. I can only hope that India proves me wrong, but it's not looking good.

Say a prayer for the Olympians and the Indians involved in this upcoming event - let's hope they provide a wonderful event that stands up to what China provided. I loved what the Chinese did and am hoping that the Indians provide something unique and culturally educational. The Western Olympics generally have the same look and feel, but China really set a new level for the events.

LinkedIn Recommendation: Jonah William - Owner at Tessier Marketing - I thought I was well versed in social media before I found Teo. He has helped me round my skill set with great information only he seems to teach. I went on the web and looked for it later, but it's just not there. The ShareThis.com counters for instance, which definitely don't work right... can't find that anywhere, but it's easy to prove once you know what to test for! Teo really has a way of getting to what works and what works best! - March 17, 2012, Jonah was Teo's client
