2012 and the Mayan Calendar

Submitted by Teo Graca | RSS Feed | Add Comment | Bookmark Me!

I had watched and recorded a television program on the Mayan calendar late in 2009 from the Syfy Channel called 2012: Startling New Secrets and just watched it again recently. It presented some interesting information on physics and galactic cycles, which I have documented here.

Note that it uses "scare" tactics with "end of the world" interpretations, so I have added a couple cartoons below, which reflect my view on why the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012 and how uneventful it will really be.

The Mayan Calendar predicts a 25,625 year cycle called the precession of the equinoxes - it actually represents 5 sub cycles of 5,125 years that adds up to this 26k+ year greater cycle. I found some good information at these links.

  • WikiPedia - Axial precession (astronomy) - discusses the basics of axial precession and how it applies to the historical understanding of the precession of the equinoxes.
  • Crystal Links provides a good understanding of how the axial precession works with a set of easy to understand visual presentations.
  • 2012 Alignment shows the Galactic Alignment very clearly - our sun was actually in perfect galactic alignment with the center of our galaxy in 1998, but 2012 represents the Earth-to-Sun Axial Precession alignment - our solar system will be 3 degrees on one side of the galactic plain in 2012, which to me seems less significant than the 1998 event. It also shows how our sun is positioned through the millennia based on the Mayan calendar cycle.

An equinox actually occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun. The center of the Sun is in the same plane as the Earth's equator. It is 94 days from the June solstice to the September equinox, but only 89 days from the December Solstice to the March equinox. The seasons are not of equal length because of the variable speed of the Earth in its elliptical orbit around the Sun.

See the Wikipedia Equinox Article for details.

John Major Jenkins covers some other details on the smaller Mayan calendar cycles and how they fit into the larger ones. He has another article about the galactic positioning of our solar system and shows the processional shifting of the solstice sun in relation to the Galactic Center over 6,000+ years.

If that isn't enough, there is plenty of reading, video and pictures on the 13 moon website on this subject.

Tortion Field Physics (or Hyperdimensional Physics) was also discussed. This was new to me and although it is said that some Russian scientists have been working on it for 3 decades, most give it little or no credibility. I find it fascinating. Here are some articles I found on this.

  • PadRak - Torsion field emanations can travel at velocities at least as high as 109 times the speed of light. Torsion fields can interact with laser beams (change frequency); affect biological processes; are generated by melting or solidifying some materials; affect quartz crystals; affect some electronic components; can favorably change some beverages; and have been noted to affect gravity.
  • Welcome The Light - This is a little "out there" and suggests 352 dimensions. I am familiar with the new math the proves 11 dimensions. This math unified all of the string theories as different views of the same thing and proved the parallel universe theory. It actually completes Einstein's idea of the Theory of Everything. (see M-Theory for more info. on this)
  • Ed Komarek has an interesting idea about ET's - The reason we are unaware of these more advanced civilizations is that these civilizations are based on nanotechnology and torsion field technologies.

I found many new insights into many new ideas in this show and you may find it at least entertaining. I hope you will share your insights here. Thanks!
