If you have been thinking about a sailing vacation in Greece, try the Sporades Islands. It is one of the country's most beautiful islands. The area is distinguished for its mountainous terrain and thick vegetation. Moreover, the islands has been judged as having one of the cleanest and relaxing beaches across Europe.
The four main islands attract varied types of crowd. For example, the island of Skiathos is the favorite destination of party animals and young hippies because of its intense nightlife (from discos and music bars) and nice beaches. In fact, the island boasts as having the most stunning beaches in the Mediterranean. Aside from this, Skiathos also has dazzling coves.
The island of Evia is one of the most visited places in theSporades. Its location is parallel to the country's mainland. Its neighboring areas include Attica, Boeotia, and Locris. The east coast of the island is not accessible because of its very dangerous cliffs. On its west coast, the Euripos channel can be found. Kymi is Evia's major port. In here, one can start his or her journey across the Sporades Island. It has a typical climate good for sailing.
Meanwhile the Alonissos Island is for vacationers who wanted to have peace and tranquility. The island has been characterized from the group because of its quietness. It is located at the midst of the Sporades Islands. This is the sanctuary of the rare Mediterranean monk seals.
A sailing vacation in Greece is a extraordinary experience when you are in Sporades Islands. Also, a handful of ports can be used during your sailing vacation. These include the Skyros' Linaria port, Alonissos' Patitiri port, Skopelos port, and the Skiathos port. There are also minor harbors such as the Steni Vala port and the Loutraki port that can be used.
Alonissos main port and capital town is Patitiri. This is also one of the most populated islands in the Sporades. At present, Patitiri now is not what it used to be. The old Patitiri was destroyed in 1965 when a powerful earthquake hit the island. There are many interesting stuffs in the island. These include its whitewashed streets, unique marble formations, and pine forest. Several beaches, cafes, and restaurants are also in Patitiri.
