20 to 50 Mbps Speed Recorded during LTE Trial |

According to O2 UK, the download rates up to 150 Mbps were recorded by the firm across 25 sites in central London during the trial of LTE service which ended earlier this week. The trial has been running since December 2011, with 1000 users facilitated with personal mobile hotspot of Samsung USB modem. The most active users who were involved in the aforementioned LTE trialdownloaded 200 GB per month. The recorded trial speeds were between 20 Mbps and 50 Mbps which were around 20 times faster as compared to those of the3G rates.
According to the firm, “click to bank rate” which means (latency) of 0.07 second across the LTE network were the additional findings. The findings spanned 40 sq. km., stretching from Hyde Park to Canary Wharf and O2 Arena, which include Soho, Westminster, South Bank and Kings Cross. According to some news agencies, these results were obtained by O2 UK using trial spectrum at 2.6GHz instead of the digital dividend frequency band at 800MHz.
CEO of O2 UK Ronan Dunne gave a statement in which he said that the forthcoming spectrum auction is a watershed moment for the mobile industry of UK, releasing airwaves which will power an entire range of exciting next generation mobile services. Ronanadded that the new spectrum will be capable to increase capacity, quality as well asspeed, and will allow the company to deliver the true connectivity via a suite of innovative digital services, which work flawlessly and at the speed for the benefit of users, enterprises and UK plc. It is estimated that mobile broadband capacity will increase by 20 to 40 times from the levels which are available today. But, this LTE trial was less regarding the fact what headline speed could be achieve and more about the way how to integrate the network technology into existing back-office systems of O2 UK.
As per a report, it also included testing customer authentication and cell handoff on the LTE network. Both of these are understood to haveperformed nicely. The performance during the trial created a new hope among the users as well as the company officials. As Ronne Dunne also told, capacity, quality as well as speed will also be increased with the help of the suite of innovative digital services. It is expectedthat some more good technology news about this topicwill come in the limelight soon. The company’s CEO said that the new spectrum will increase capacity, quality and speed.
