Every company launches their handsets with a great pomp & shows with a lot of promotional offers, but after a year or less the phone becomes primitive or alien in the world of technology. Back in the time the companies used to take care of their sold products for a long time and used to make sure that the customer should not be facing any difficulty with their product. Now, technology vendors are using a rip and replace policy.
Smartphones and Tablets are holding rank one in the case of disposable technology. Devices which even cost a lot do not even provide the support in two years. The leading name in providing the best support is Microsoft. They provide a lot of support along with security updates but they take charges for their services. Canonical’s Ubuntu 12.04 comes with a five year support of security and software which means it can make your smartphone live long.
The company like Apple even shifted their focus to software from hardware. This was because its rivals like Samsung, HTC etc had changed their priorities back to hardware. LG Optimus 2X and HTC One X were the first two dual core phones of a time but as hardware was improve, how can a smartphone work alone with improved hardware only? One more example of this is that Nokia launching a 41MP camera on a smartphone but using this high quality camera on a phone running a dead operating system makes no sense.
The time is coming when smartphone industry will need software with long-term support though the phone is using Google's Android operating system. New smartphones are coming with improved hardwares as well as softwares but the old smartphones users are still in the condition of fix.

This can be termed as customer’s foolishness to get into race to have new smartphone; the companies will not change services.
