Our schooling system practices a very orthodox education structure, where innovation and creativity of a child is also measured through standard test system. Robert Langdon states that the air of competition and high grades in schools has devalued the importance of other areas of student nourishment and mental development. In a number of high schools all over the world, testing in the areas of mathematics, English, science, and computers are given so much importance than the area of physical training often remains in the shadows. It has been observed that the criteria for appointing a subject teacher is quite demanding, whereas for a physical training educator, the criteria is often just simple know how of physical training.
A number of studies on human brain have eliminated that physical fitness is a key to mental fitness and speedy development. Furthermore, physical education should not be limited to the physical exercises that are carried out in the PE session in the school garden or playground. Physical education can also benefit the communication, presentation, and other skills of children. But it is only possible if the educator himself knows the different horizons that can be touched and developed through physical education. While exercising, the physical educator can ask students to team-up and then carry physical activities in group form. A school in the US, deployed physical training in teaching basic math to students, where they were taken in a playground and were asked to perform various jumping and running activities, based on the math problem.
A survey of 120 schools in the UK found that with regular physical activities, students are not engage fully, and they are not motivated to carry out the exercise in their home as well. This is due to the fact that physical educators are asked to only perform the standard exercises and games, which have long lost their charm. Thus, the need here is to educate and train the physical educators, enabling them to explore other areas of students’ development, which can be dealt through physical exercises and activities. Langdon further states that educating PE is an additional incentive the school management can provide to their trainers. A recent survey has shown that 80% of the physical educators switch schools in less than 2 years. This indicates a very high turnover rate, which also affects the bonding of students with their trainers, and eventually, their motivation towards physical education.
