Small businesses usually have tight budgets and basic needs which can easily be fulfilled with a shared server as well. That is why most people do not recommend a dedicated server for small businesses. On the flip side, if a small business is growing at a rapid pace and can afford a low end dedicated server, then it is with considering a dedicated server. It will be a sound investment as it will provide some degree of future-proofing along with top of the line performance, security and controls.
