Your web site and squeeze page are critical processes to building a list and there are several different ways to set up your opt-in form.
First you have to decide if your new visitor can access your web site without first giving you their name and email address. It makes sense that when you have invested time and money to drive traffic to your site that you want to reap the maximum benefit of your efforts.
One method of gathering subscribers to your list is to add an opt-in box on your existing homepage of your website. Depending on where you place this opt-in form and the nature of your free gift, you may get 10 or 20% of your web site visitors to opt in. If you already have a prosperous web business and get lot of traffic to your site, then this might be the best way to build your list and grow your business.
A better way is to send all your visitors to a squeeze page where they have only two options. They either opt-in to your list or they leave. They know that in order to gain access to your site they must first give you their information. As a further incentive you must offer them something of value such as a free report, an ebook, course or discount.
The disadvantage to this method is that only 50-80% of the visitors to the squeeze page will actually opt-in and the remaining will be lost. However, those who choose not to subscribe are probably not good prospects and would not buy anyway. So you haven't really lost that much.
Whatever business you do lose is more than made up from the repeat sales you make to the others on your list.
You may feel that this is counter-intuitive especially if you are already doing a sizable business on your web site. However, the value of your mailing list, when managed correctly, should be far more than the value of any one visitor to your site.
If you already have a large web business, then create a squeeze page and drive some traffic to it. Track it, and compare it with the average revenue per unique visitor on your web site. If it turns out that your squeeze page generates a greater visitor value then this is where you want to direct your traffic.

If he doesn't know something, he tells me right up front and somehow finds it in a few seconds while we are on the phone, "oh, wait a minute.. I know now! Just found it. Now we both know" - The guys is just funny! It's great working with Teo! Highly recommended! - March 17, 2012, Wade was Teo's client |
