Bioneers Push Organic and Local Food Production |

The push for organic and local food production is gaining momentum. As Ghandi said, first they will ignore you, then they will ridicule you, then they will fight you, then you win. We are at the fighting stage and the next big push in the US will be for the 2012 farming bill.
Part 1 - Michael Pollan, a contributing writer to the New York Times Magazine and the recipient of numerous journalistic awards, served for many years as executive editor of Harpers Magazine and is now a professor of Science and Environmental Journalism at UC Berkeley. He is also the nations most influential and important thinker and writer on food and agriculture, the author of many seminal, award-winning, bestselling books.
Part 2 - Food Reform, Sustainability, Aquaponics, Solar Food, etc. and other movements can be encompassed into the Bioneers Movement. We need to rewrite the rules to redefine motivating factors for farmers. As we lose jobs in the US, automated farming systems can be replaced to include jobs for Americans and bring our food production into a sustainable that is not dependent on fossil fuels. We need policies to encourage the farmers market and other localized distribution networks.
Part 3 - Bringing the government around to supporting, instead of stifling these efforts is doable and the next big government farmer bill comes in 2012. One of the ways to bring our message to the next generation is to educate our children on the value of real food and get them away from chicken nuggets and tater tots. Vigilance and participation is absolutely necessary. There is a movement, and it is easy to participate.

Set up a small or large garden, greenhouse or farm, help with any community gardens in your area or work as an intern or employee with an organization that is part of this movement. We can all make a difference, even if only in a small way. Create a project in your area to further sustainable food production and make a difference!
