Wikipedia Bio - Getting Yours Published

Submitted by Teo Graca | RSS Feed | Add Comment | Bookmark Me!

There are strict limitations listed below on whom can have a bio listed in WikiPedia, but generally, authors of books qualify. We offer a free review of your current notoriety and can quickly determine if your biography information can be included on WikiPedia, and if so, we can place it on the WikiPedia site. Note that you are not allowed to put your own biography on WikiPedia (autobiographies are strictly prohibited).

The benefits of having your bio, events and other important activities listed on WikiPedia are endless, but they can all be summed up in a word - credibility. This helps your books sales and your business in general.

We are currently working with over 20,000 university students and many other people in various stages of their careers in our social media programs (almost 40,000 total as of this writing) and many use WikiPedia for their research. A few of the students we work with edit and post information on various subjects in WikiPedia. For authors that work with us, we may be able to motivate one of these students that are already familiar with you and your book to document your history and biography so that you are remembered for your accomplishments.

The criteria for getting your biography information on WikiPedia are as follows:

Percentage-wise, very few people are notable enough to be included in Wikipedia. Like any encyclopedia, Wikipedia includes biographies of important historical figures and people involved in current events.

The general rule for biographies is that there must be enough reliable, third-party information to demonstrate public interest in the individual. People who satisfy at least one of the items below may merit their own Wikipedia articles as there is likely to be a good deal of information available about them and substantial public interest in them. This list is not complete, but rather illustrates examples of level of notability required for Wikipedia:

  • A person who made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in their specific field
  • Political figures holding international, national or statewide/provincewide office
  • Widely recognized entertainment personalities and opinion makers (e.g. members of the Hollywood Walk of Fame)
  • Sportspeople who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming, or at the highest level in mainly amateur sports, usually considered to mean the Olympic Games or World Championships
  • Published authors, editors and photographers who received multiple independent reviews of or awards for their work
  • Painters, sculptors, architects, engineers, and other professionals whose work is widely recognized (for better or worse) and who are likely to become a part of the enduring historical record of that field
  • Persons who achieved renown or notoriety for their involvement in newsworthy events
  • A person who was the primary subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the person (multiple similar stories describing a single news event only count as one instance of coverage)

Note: In the case of a person notable only for their role in one event, but not otherwise a public figure, an article on the event is preferred to having a biography for the person.

LinkedIn Recommendation: Jonah William - Owner at Tessier Marketing - I thought I was well versed in social media before I found Teo. He has helped me round my skill set with great information only he seems to teach. I went on the web and looked for it later, but it's just not there. The ShareThis.com counters for instance, which definitely don't work right... can't find that anywhere, but it's easy to prove once you know what to test for! Teo really has a way of getting to what works and what works best! - March 17, 2012, Jonah was Teo's client
