The problems of next week would have to wait until this week was done. Nothing would ruin this weekend. Lulled in comfort, I must have dozed off because the next thing I heard was Marla saying, We should be there soon. What would you like to do when we arrive? Would you prefer to rest for a while or get involved in island life right away? Itll be a few hours before Gideon arrives.
Im looking forward to a wonderful weekend, Marla, I said as I stretched and yawned. Doesnt really matter what we do. Is there anything special you have in mind? I was somewhat embarrassed that I had fallen asleep.
No, she said, just doing whatever you want would be fine with me. Ive been here many times before.Remember, I can go anywhere, anywhen. But traveling this way is sometimes so much fun.
I hoped she wasnt reading my mind at this moment because I caught myself thinking of a few hedonistic things Id really like to do. She looked up at me and smiled as if she heard my thoughts. Quietly we sat there until I leaned over and gently kissed her cheek. Thank you, I said, thanks to both of you for making all this possible.
Dont mention it, she said in an almost inaudible whisper.I think its rather, well . . . lets see, special and appropriate. You deserve all good things.
Soon we were on the ground in an enchanting, tropical isle. We quickly cleared local immigration and were on our way when I heard hurried footsteps from behind and turned to see a man rushing toward us, waving his hands. Whos that, Marla? He seems to know us, I pointed. She stopped and looked back as the man rushed up. Then she smiled a smile of recognition and said, Oh, its our driver. Hell take us to the hotel.
